PRIVATE LABEL PRODUCT THAT ATTRACTS ATTENTION

Overview: RadioShack asked Ignition to develop an iPod accessory that would drive sales through the lucrative holiday seasons. The team pitched the idea to explore an alarm clock iPod dock that could compete with the incredibly popular iHome series of products. The pitch was that we would target a price point of roughly half that of the competition and deliver the most user-friendly solution in the category.

STAND OUT IN A CROWD

The design language for this product was developed to
create something that in its simplicity would stand out against the competition.

By avoiding the pitfalls of other electronic “boxes” on the market this product presents itself as a non-intimidating, non-consumer electronic solution. The classic alarm clock styling hints at a time when setting your alarm didn’t require a 22-page instruction manual.

REVITALIZING RADIOSHACK

Year: 2007

Role: Jr. Designer (assistant to Michael Young)

Overview: This project presented a remarkable opportunity to collaborate with a prominent industrial designer, Michael Young, and contribute to the creation of a line of signature products for RadioShack. By interpreting Michael's sketches, directing a talented team, and assembling the final pitch deck, I played a significant role in bringing our vision to life. Our primary goals were to translate Michael's design style into products that would resonate with RadioShack's customer base, leveraging their existing market presence, and fostering a seamless integration between design and functionality. The Mouse design, showcased within this portfolio, represents the culmination of our efforts and serves as a testament to our shared commitment to innovation and excellence.

As an assistant designer working alongside the renowned industrial designer Michael Young, I had the privilege of being involved in an exciting project aimed at designing a line of signature products for RadioShack. Over a span of four weeks in Hong Kong, our collaboration focused on developing a compelling pitch to present to RadioShack's executive leadership. This project allowed me to leverage my skills in interpreting Michael's sketches and transforming them into captivating 3D models and renderings.

CINEGO

FOR RADIOSHACK

Year: 2004

Role: Jr. Designer

Overview: In 2004, we embarked on a remarkable journey to design Cinego, a projector with an integrated DVD player and stereo sound system, exclusively for RadioShack. Our project stemmed from a profound insight into the emerging trend of individuals embracing projection technologies to create their own outdoor cinemas. While the concept was incredibly enjoyable, the complexity of setting up these systems with multiple devices and tangled cables presented a significant challenge. Recognizing an opportunity to simplify the process, we set out to design Cinego, offering a plug-and-play solution for everyone to effortlessly enjoy movies in their backyard.

ICONIC AND INTUATIVE

The Cinego product represents the culmination of our efforts, offering a seamless and intuitive user experience while delivering exceptional audiovisual performance. With a focus on usability and iconic design, we meticulously laid out the controls, ensuring they aligned with how the device would be used. The interface of Cinego guides users through a straightforward four-step process: first, power on the device; second, insert a DVD into the player; third, press play; and finally, adjust the volume conveniently located at the back. With these simple steps, users can sit back, relax, and enjoy their favorite movies with friends and family, creating lasting memories in the comfort of their own backyard.
