Overview: The first iPad was an amazing device that created a new category for personal electronics. This lead to new use scenarios that created new pain points for our customers. Our objective with HandyShell was to provide a mobile protective solution for professionals. The goal was to provide a protective case with an adjustable stand, and an ergonomic handle for more comfortable extended use.

Mighty Pack

Year: 2015

Role: Lead Designer

Overview: The MightyPack was a backpack system designed for urban commuters who wanted a home base for their important technology while on the go. After an initial research phase that identified the need for a better way to streamline the mobile technology experience we identified the key items that our target demographic needed on the go. The final design packages this research into a bag full of thoughtful details for the technology aficionado. With charging configurations in either the pack or your pocket, an easy to access rigid “vault” pocket for your mobile tech, and a quick adjusting strap system this bag has you covered.

CANDYSHELL + ARMBAND

Year: 2013

Role: Lead Designer

Overview: The CandyShell + Armband was Speck’s first attempt at building a product for the fitness and wellness space. The product was designed around a simple observation; users of running armbands were frustrated by the fact that they needed to remove their case in order to fit a phone into an armband.

KEY PRODUCT FEATURES

In addition to case compatibility the team also baked in several key features based on feedback from our target users:

Large reflective area to promote visibility in low light

A sweat proof membrane around the device

Integrated cable management in the armband

MIGHTYSHELL

Year: 2014

Role: Lead Designer

Overview: The MightyShell was designed to be a premium protective smartphone case that would not add excessive bulk to the device.

Inspired by innovations observed in the helmet space and leveraging a proprietary TPR material, MightyShell was able to achieve 2 times the standard military drop rating.

SLIM STYLE

MAXIMUM PROTECTION

Speck was known for delivering sleek cases that offered real protection. MightyShell took it a step further by adding a glass screen protector, full port protection, and 3 layers of impact absorbing materials around the perimeter of the device.
